Monteith POW camp
The POW Camp 23, Monteith was a Canadian-run POW camp for German soldiers during World War II, located in Monteith, Iroquois Falls, Ontario. The camp was located about 80 kilometers east of Timmins, Ontario and about 700 km north of Toronto. Before World War II, the camp was a lumber camp employing about 40 men. Board lumber was cut on site and shipped about 8 km to the rail line. In 1941, the camp was converted into a prisoner of war camp by the Canadian government.

Kettle Lakes Provincial Park
Kettle Lakes Provincial Park is a provincial park in north-eastern Ontario, about 30 km east of Timmins. It is administered by Ontario Parks, which classifies it as a recreation park. The landscape of the park is the legacy of the retreat of an enormous glacier at the end of the last Ice Age, approximately 12,000 years ago. After the glacier retrated, half-buried icebergs melted to form small, deep lakes referred to by earth scientists as kettle lakes.
