Almaliq, Xinjiang

Almalik (Chinese: 阿力麻里; pinyin: Ālìmálǐ, also transcribed Almaliq, Almalik, Almalig, Almaligh) was a medieval city in the Ili River basin in present-day Huocheng County, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, China, situated between the city of Yining and the border with Kazakhstan. Almalik was originally one of Karluk cities in the Turkic Kaganates.

Shuiding

The town of Shuiding, formerly Suiding (Chinese: 绥定; pinyin: Suídìng) is the county seat of Huocheng County in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China. It is located some 40 km to the northwest of Yining, the main city of the prefecture, and some 10 km north of the Ili River. Shuiding had the population of 29,277 according to the census of 2000.

Huiyuan, Xinjiang

The town of Huiyuan is located within Huocheng County, in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, China. It is located near the Ili River, some 30 km to the west of Yining, the main city of the prefecture, and some 8 km south of Shuiding, the county seat. Huiyuan's population was reported as 20,564 by the Year 2000 Census.

Huocheng County

The Huocheng (Korgas) County is situated within the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and under the administration of the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture. It's located between Yining and the border to Kazakhstan, occupies an area of 5,466 km and has a population of 360,000 (2004 estimate). Including the Han and Uyghur nationalities, there are twenty nine ethnic groups living in the county. North of Huocheng City is the Tianshan District; facing to the south lies the Ili River.
