Isla de la Juventud

Isla de la Juventud ("Isle of Youth") is the second-largest Cuban island and the seventh-largest island in the West Indies. The island was called the Isle of Pines (Isla de Pinos) until it was renamed in 1978. The island has an area 2,200 km and is 50 km south of the island of Cuba, across the Gulf of Batabanó. The island lies almost directly south of Havana and Pinar del Río and is a Special Municipality (2,419 km), not part of any province.

Presidio Modelo

The Presidio Modelo was a "model prison" of Panopticon design, built on Isla de Pinos in Cuba. The prison was built under President-turned-dictator Gerardo Machado between 1926–1928. The five circular blocks, with cells constructed in tiers around central observation posts, were built with the capacity to house up to 2,500 prisoners in humane conditions.

Estadio Cristóbal Labra

Estadio Cristóbal Labra opened in the 1940s as Municipal Stadium, in Nueva Gerona on the Isla de la Juventud. With 5,000 seats, it is the smallest in the Cuban National Series and was the only stadium without lights.
