La Habana Province

Havana Province (Spanish: Provincia de la Habana) was one of the provinces of Cuba, prior to being divided into two new provinces of Artemisa and Mayabeque on January 1, 2011. It had 711,066 people in the 2002 census. The largest city was Artemisa (81,209).

Mayabeque River

Mayabeque River (alternately Rio Mayabeque) is a river of western Cuba, considered the largest in the southwestern watershed of Cuba, with an extensive fluvial network that encompasses the municipalities of Güines, San Jose de las Lajas, Jaruco, Madruga, and Melena del Sur. The old outlet in Melena del Sur (now connected with the main river only by irrigation canals) is named Antiguo Mayabeque. The Antiguo (ancient) Mayabeque is still navigable by small boats in the last 5 km .

Playa Mayabeque

Playa Mayabeque (Mayabeque Beach) is a location in the southern part of Mayabeque Province, within 15 kilometers of Melena del Sur on the southern shore of Cuba. The waters are muddy, to which local people attribute therapeutic properties. In the beach it is located the old outlet of the Mayabeque river ("Antiguo Mayabeque"), the most important river in the former Havana province, which gave its name to the new province of Mayabeque established in 2011.

Estadio Nelson Fernández

Estadio Nelson Fernández is a multi-use stadium in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque Province, Cuba. It is currently used mostly for baseball games and up to 2011 was the home stadium of the Havana Vaqueros team. Starting from the 2011-2012 series this stadium will be the home of the new Mayabeque provincial team "Huracanes" (hurricanes). The stadium holds 8,000 people.

Mayabeque Province

Mayabeque Province is one of two new provinces in Cuba, which creation was approved by the Cuban National Assembly (August 1, 2010) by splitting former La Habana province.
