Herzogstand Radio Station

Herzogstand Radio Station was a radio communication station built and operated from 1920 to 1946 on the Herzogstand mountain near the Kochelsee in Bavaria, Germany. The plant was conceived by C Lorenz AG to transmit long-wave radio traffic between Germany and the far east, since the existing large radio stations served mainly traffic to the west. From 1930 the mechanism was used by the Technical University of Munich for ionosphere research.

Kochelsee

Kochelsee or Lake Kochel is located 70 kilometres south of Munich on the edge of the Bavarian Alps. The western third of the lake lies within the borders of the town of Schlehdorf, while the rest belongs to Kochel am See. The southern edge of the lake lies up against the mountains and the northern shore is bordered by bog lands. The history of the settlement of Kochel (previously Quochcalun) begins with Birg bei Altjoch, a rock extrusion on the shore of the lake.

Schlehdorf Abbey

Schlehdorf Abbey was originally a Benedictine monastery, later an Augustinian monastery, and is today a convent of the Missionary Dominican Sisters of King William's Town. It is located at Schlehdorf, on the extreme northern edge of the Bavarian Alps on the Kochelsee south of Munich, Germany.

Herzogstand Cable Car

The Herzogstand Cable Car was built in 1994 as replacement for a 4,500-foot chair lift through the Bavarian alps. Its two cabins carry passengers from the Walchensee lake to the Fahrenberg mountain on the upper slopes of the Herzogstand mountain. The cableway uses a 43 mm carrying cable and a 21 mm hauling cable. The cable car is driven by a 185 kilowatt engine. The cable way has two supports, which are 28 metres and 24 metres high.
