Pherae
Pherae was an ancient Greek town in southeastern Thessaly. It bordered Lake Boebeïs. In mythology, it was the home of King Admetus, whose wife, Alcestis, Heracles went into Hades to rescue. In history, it was more famous as the home of the fourth-century tyrants Jason and Alexander of Pherae, who took control of much of Thessaly before their defeat by the Thebans.

Larissa National Airport
Larissa Airport Thessaly (Greek: Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Λάρισσας “Θεσσαλία”) was built in 1912. It was the commercial airport of Larissa until 1997 when it closed. It's claimed that it will reopen for commercial flights in 2013. Currently the airport is being used only by military aircraft. The longest runway (08/26) is temporarily closed. The runways do not have an ILS.
