Araxos Airport

Araxos Airport/Aerodrome is a Greek international military / civilian airport located near Araxos cape, Achaea Prefecture and serves the city of Patras as well as the western part of the Peloponese region. It is also known as Araxos National Airport. or Agamemnon Airport. It serves (primarily) as an active air base for the Hellenic Air Force, with some civilian services to Europe in the summer months.

Larissos (river)

Larissos (Greek: Λάρισσος, also Riolitiko) is a river in the western part of Achaea, southern Greece. Its source is on the western slope of the Movri hills, near the village Mataragka. It flows through the Prokopos lagoon, and empties into the Ionian Sea in the village Kalogria. Other villages along its course are Kagkadi, Apideonas and Lappas. Its complete course lies within the municipal unit Larissos, which took its name from the river.

Battle of Lepanto

The Battle of Lepanto took place on 7 October 1571 when a fleet of the Holy League, a coalition of southern European Catholic maritime states, decisively defeated the main fleet of the Ottoman Empire in five hours of fighting on the northern edge of the Gulf of Corinth, off western Greece. The Ottoman forces sailing westwards from their naval station in Lepanto (Turkish: İnebahtı; Greek: Ναύπακτος or Έπαχτος Naupaktos or Épahtos) met the Holy League forces, which had come from Messina.

Gulf of Patras

The Gulf of Patras (Greek: Πατραϊκός Κόλπος Patraikós Kólpos) is a branch of the Ionian Sea. On the east, it is closed by the Strait of Rion between capes Rio, Greece and Antirrio, near the Rio-Antirio bridge. On the west, it is bounded by a line from Oxeia island to Cape Araxos. It is 40–50 km long, 10–20 km wide, and has an area of 350–400 km². The Port of Patras lies to the southeast and is the only major port on the gulf.

Peiros

The Peiros is a river in the central and the northwestern parts of Achaea, Greece. The river is known locally under several names including Kamenitsa (Καμενίτσα), Mellas (Μέλλας), Pieros (Πίερος), Nezeritiko (Νεζερίτικο), Prevedos (Πρέβεδος) and Acheloos (Αχελώος). One of its tributaries is the Tytheus, also known as Parapeiros.
