Santa Apolonia is a municipality in the northern part of Chimaltenango department of Guatemala. Madre Vieja River

The Río Madre Vieja is a river in southwest Guatemala. Its sources are located in the Sierra Madre range, on the border of the departments El Quiché, Sololá, and Chimaltenango. It flows southwards through the coastal lowlands of Suchitepéquez and Escuintla to the Pacific Ocean. The Madre Vieja river basin covers a territory of 1,007 km.

Tecpán Guatemala (locally referred to as just Tecpán) is a municipality in the department of Chimaltenango, in Guatemala, on the Inter-American Highway CA-1. The climate is generally cold. It is characterized as a tourist destination, with some fame derived from its landscapes, varied vegetation and from being on an access route to Iximché archaeological site.

Chichicastenango

Chichicastenango, also known as Santo Tomás Chichicastenango, is a town in the El Quiché department of Guatemala, known for its traditional K'iche' Maya culture. The Spanish conquistadors gave the town its name from the Nahuatl name used by their soldiers from Tlaxcala: Tzitzicaztenanco, or City of Nettles. Its original name was Chaviar. Chichicastenango serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipality of the same name.

San José Poaquil

San José Poaquil is a municipality in the Chimaltenango department of Guatemala. San José Poaquil, like many other Mayan indigenous towns throughout the western highlands, suffered greatly under the severe military repression of the early 1980s. In 2002, 76 human remains were exhumed from mass graves by the Forensic Anthropology Foundation of Guatemala (FAFG).
