Sipacate-Naranjo National Park
Sipacate-Naranjo National Park is located along the Pacific coast of Escuintla in Guatemala . The park includes mangrove forests, lagoons and sandy beaches and covers an area of 20 km long and 1 km wide, stretching between the coastal towns of Sipacate and Naranjo. Mangrove species found in the park are white mangrove, black mangrove and several Rhizophora species, including the red mangrove. Transitional tree species include the Mexican palmetto and the guiana chestnut.

It was the Pacific port for Guatemala, but this was superseded in the 20th century by Puerto Quetzal, a few kilometers to the east of the town. The Puerto Quetzal complex is the major employer in the town. The local tourist industry caters largely for weekenders from Guatemala City.

The 1942 Guatemala earthquake occurred at 17:37 local time on August 6 and had ratings of 7.7 on the moment magnitude scale and 7.9 on the surface wave magnitude scale. The epicenter was located off the southern coast of Guatemala, and it was one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded there. The earthquake caused widespread damage in the west-central highlands of Guatemala. Thirty-eight people died in the earthquake.
