San Juan Ixcoy

San Juan Ixcoy is a municipality in the Guatemalan department of Huehuetenango. The municipality covers an area of 224 km² and is formed by the town of San Juan Ixcoy, 11 villages and 33 caserios (rural communities). Its population of 19,367 (in 2002) is predominantly of Maya Q'anjob'al descent. San Juan Ixcoy is located in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes range and borders with the municipalities of Soloma and Santa Eulalia in the North, Chiantla in the South and Nebaj in the East.

Ixcán River

The río Ixcán is a river in Guatemala. The river flows northwards from its sources in the Cuchumatanes mountains in Huehuetenango, marks the border with El Quiché for a number of kilometers, and crosses the border with Mexico at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:16.074929|-91.107817|type:landmark_region:GT|||||| | |name=Río Ixcán }} where it flows into the Lacantún River, a tributary of the Usumacinta river. The Ixcán river basin covers an area of 2,085 km³ in Guatemala.

San Sebastián Coatán

San Sebastián Coatán is a municipality in the Guatemalan department of Huehuetenango. Its territory extends 560 km, is 2,350m above sea level and has a cooler climate. It has 18,022 inhabitants who speak Spanish and Chuj. It borders San Mateo Ixtatán and Nentón to the north, San Rafael la Independencia and Santa Eulalia to the east, San Miguel Acatán to the south and Nentón to the west. Within these borders lies the archeological site called Moja'.
