Taranga (Jain Temple)

Taranga is a Jain pilgrimage center in Mehsana district, Gujarat, India. It is one of the few tirthas where both the Shvetambaras and the Digambaras visit. The oldest temple constructed in 1121 by the Solanki king Kumarpal, under the advice of his teacher Acharya Hemachandra. A 2.75 m marble statue of Rishabha is the central idol. The Shvetambara compound consists of 14 temples in all. There are also five Digambara-affiliated temples at Taranga.

Visnagar

Visnagar is a city and a municipality in Mehsana district in the Indian state of Gujarat. "VISNAGAR" named after its founder king VISHALDEO from Ajmer Dynasty was founded in 953 on the auspicious day of 'Akhatrij'. Founded just as an outpost of the kingdom of king Visaldeo surrounding the present 'Deliya Talao' a huge water tank covering area of approx 2 lac sq. meter.

Mehsana district

Mehsana district is one of the 26 districts of Gujarat state in western India. Mehsana city is the administrative headquarters of this district. The district has a population of over 18 lakhs and an area of over 4,500  km². There are over 600 villages in this district. It had a population of 1,837,892 of which 22.40% were urban as of 2001.
