Datia State

Datia State had formerly been a state in the Bundelkhand region founded in 1626. The ruling family were Rajputs of the Bundela clan; they descended from a younger son of a former raja of Orchha. The state was administered as part of the Bundelkhand Agency of Central India. It lay in the extreme north-west of Bundelkhand, near Gwalior, and was surrounded on all sides by other princely states of Central India, except on the east where it bordered upon the United Provinces.

Datia

Datia is the district headquarter of the Datia District. The town is 69 km from Gwalior, 325 km south of new Delhi and 320 km north of Bhopal. It is an ancient town, mentioned in the Mahabharata as Daityavakra. The town is a market centre for food grains and cotton products. Handloom weaving is an important industry . Datia is a famed for the seven-storied palace built by Raja Beer Singh Deo in 1614.

Treaty of Salbai

The Treaty of Salbai was signed on May 17, 1782, by representatives of the Maratha Empire and the British East India Company after long negotiations to settle the outcome of the First Anglo-Maratha War. Under its terms, the Company retained control of Salsette and Broch and acquired guarantees that the Marathas would defeat Hyder Ali of Mysore and retake territories in the Carnetic.

Jhansi district

Jhansi District is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state in northern India. The town of Jhansi is the district headquarters. The district is bordered on the north by Jalaun District, to the east by Hamirpur and Mahoba districts, to the south by Tikamgarh District of Madhya Pradesh state, to the southwest by Lalitpur District, which is joined to Jhansi District by a narrow corridor, and on the east by the Datia and Bhind districts of Madhya Pradesh. Population 1,746,715 (2001 census).
