Rankala Lake

Rankala Lake is a picturesque lake in the Kolhapur District of the state of Maharashtra in western India. It is believed to be linked directly to a well in Panhala Fort which Shivaji Maharaj is believed to have crossed. Nowadays it is a famous spot for residents of Kolhapur to spend the weekends. In recent past, Kolhapur Municipal corporation has built "Padpath Udyan" for a lakeside walk. This lake was constructed by Chhatrapatis of Kolhapur.

Panhala

Panhala is a city and a Hill station Municipal Council (3177 feet above sea level) 18 km northwest of Kolhapur, in Kolhapur district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Panhala is the smallest city in Maharastra and being a Municipal Council the city is developing rapidly. The city sprawls in the Panhala fort commands a panoramic view of the valley below. The main historical attraction here is the Panhala fort. There are many places of interest, each with its share of haunting anecdotes.

Shivaji University

Shivaji University, established in 1962, is located in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. It is spread over a sprawling campus of 853 acres(3.4519 km2). The University is named after the Great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of the Maratha Empire. It was inaugurated on 18 November 1962 by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the then President of India. Yashwantrao Chavan and Balasaheb Desai took the lead in establishing this University.
