Madurai

Madurai is the administrative headquarters of Madurai District in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the third largest city and the second largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu. {{#invoke:Footnotes|sfn}} Located on the banks of River Vaigai, it has been a major settlement for two millennia and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.

Goripalayam Mosque

Goripalayam Mosque is a large mosque in Goripalayam (part of Madurai City) containing two tombs of Delhi sultans of the Madurai Sultanate. Its dome is 70 feet in diameter and 20 feet in height and made of a single block of stone which was brought from the Azhaga Hills. It is said that it was built by Thirumalai Nayak for his Muslim subjects. The name Gorippalayam comes from the Persian word gor which means grave.
