Lake Campotosto

Lake Campotosto is a man-made lake in the Abruzzo, Italy. The reservoir is located at an elevation of 1,313 m and comprises an area of 14 square kilometres. It is located in the natural park known as the "Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park". The lake is reachable via the Italian State Highway 80 from either L'Aquila or the Adriatic Coast. Smaller roads lead to Capitignano, Montereale and Amatrice.

Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park

The Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park is a natural park in Italy, which was established in 1991. It has an area of 2,014 square kilometres. The terrain is predominantly mountainous. It is managed by Ente Parco Nazionale Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga, with headquarters in Assergi, in the Province of L'Aquila. The Grand Highway of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park runs through the park between the Gran Sasso mountain peak and the chain known as Monti della Laga.

Alpine Botanical Garden of Campo Imperatore

The Alpine Botanical Garden of Campo Imperatore (Giardino Botanico Alpino di Campo Imperatore, 3000 m²) is a botanical garden for alpine plants located at Campo Imperatore, L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy. It is operated by the University of L'Aquila. The garden was founded in 1952 by botanist Vincenzo Rivera. It collects plants local to the nearby Gran Sasso massif of the Apennine Mountains, including hundreds of grass species, false bilberry, greater gentian, and the Appennine edelweiss.

Calderone glacier

The Calderone glacier (Ghiacciaio del Calderone) located in the Gran Sasso d’Italia mountain group in Abruzzo, Italy lies just beneath Corno Grande, the highest peak in the Apennines. With the disappearance of the Corral de la Veleta glacier (37° N) in 1913, which lay in Spain's Sierra Nevada, "Il Calderone" became Europe's southernmost known glacier (42°28′N, 13°33′E) until the discovery of a number of small glaciers in the Prokletije in 2009.
