Montagne del Morrone

The Montagne del Morrone are a mountain group in Abruzzo, central Italy, part of the Apennines. Overlooking the town of Sulmona, they are bounded by the Valle Peligna, the river Aterno and the Majella massif. They are included into the Majella National Park. The range is composed of limestone, and have their highest peak in the Monte Morrone (2,061 m). Vegetation include typical Apennine woods of beech and mountain pine, as well as the rare orchid species Nigritella widderi.

Valle Peligna

The Valle Peligna, also known as Conca di Sulmona, is a plateau in central Abruzzo, southern Italy, included in the province of L'Aquila. It has a surface of some 100 km². The valley takes its name from the Greek term peline, meaning "muddy": this refers to prehistorical times, when it was occupied by a lake which disappeared after a series of earthquakes (the former diaphragm with the sea was in what are now the gorges of Popoli), leaving the land full of marshes but fertile.

Giardino Botanico Daniela Brescia

The Giardino Botanico Daniela Brescia (43,000 m²) is a botanical garden located in the Majella National Park (Parco Nazionale della Majella) at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level, Sant'Eufemia a Maiella, Abruzzo, Italy. It is open daily in the summer, and weekends otherwise. The garden was established in 2000, and now contains almost 500 species including Achillea oxyloba, Cerastium tomentosum, Cymbalaria pallida, Genziana dinarica, and other species typical of Mount Majella.

Santa Maria Arabona

Santa Maria Arabona is a Cistercian abbey in Abruzzo, in central Italy. It is located at Manoppello in the frazione also called Santa Maria Arabona. In Roman times the area was sacred to the goddess of fertility and virginity Bona Dea. The most important of the abbey buildings still extant is its church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, whose construction began in 1208 with the transept and the apse. The edifice remained partly unfinished, due to financial and political troubles within the order.
