Giarelli

Giarelli is an italian surname of the Valle Camonica, Lombardy A long presence of the Giarelli family is attested in Nadro of Ceto since the 16th century, although the last name is original of the town of Cimbergo. Another bow of the family is present to Massa Carrara, perhaps in relation with ancient migrations of stone cutters, while other branches of the family are present in Honduras, Argentina,and United States. In France the surname has assumed the mutation in Gerelli.

Val Camonica

Val Camonica (also Valcamonica or Camonica Valley, in camunian dialect Al Camònega, poetic Camunia) is one of the largest valleys of the central Alps, in eastern Lombardy, about 90 km long. It starts from the Tonale Pass, at 1883 metres above sea level and ends at Corna Trentapassi, in the comune of Pisogne, near Lake Iseo. It has an area of about 1,335 km and 118,323 inhabitants.

Rock Drawings in Valcamonica

The stone carvings of Val Camonica constitute one of the largest collections of prehistoric petroglyphs in the world. The collection was recognized by Unesco in 1979 and was Italy's first recognized World Heritage Site. Unesco has formally recognized more than 140,000 figures and symbols, but new discoveries have increased the number of catalogued incisions to between 200,000 and 300,000.

Nadro

Nadro is an Italian hamlet of the comune of Ceto, Lombardy. It has 655 inhabitants. It lies 75 km from Brescia, along the strada Statale 42 del Tonale e della Mendola and is situated in Val Camonica. Nadro is a medieval town developed around the tower house of the noble Gaioni's family, dated 15th century.

Pieve of Saint Syrus (Cemmo)

The Pieve of Saint Syrus is a church in the village of Cemmo, a frazione of Capo di Ponte, at 410 meters above sea level. It was one of the pievi, or isolated churches with baptistries, among which the territory of Val Camonica was divided. The complex, which stands on a ridge overlooking the river Oglio, can be reached via a staircase built in the 1930s.
