This Zeiss di Merate is a reflecting telescope on an equatorial mount and is one of the largest telescopes funded by the Regno d'Italia before Italy became republic in 1946. Approximately 3 kilometers (1.8 mi) long, it was built to bypass the rapids on the Adda River in the Paderno Dugnano section of the river.
