1997 Umbria and Marche earthquake

The 1997 Umbria and Marche earthquake consisted of two earthquakes that occurred in the regions of Umbria and Marche, central Italy, in quick succession on the morning of September 26, 1997. The first shock occurred at 2:33 am CEST, rated 5.7 on the Richter scale, and the second – the main shock – occurred at 11:40 am CEST, rated 6.1 on the Richter scale. Their epicentre was in Annifo.

Ponte di Pioraco

The Ponte di Pioraco is a Roman bridge in Pioraco, central Italy, presumably erected under emperor Augustus (r.  30 BC–14 AD). It belonged to a branch road of the Via Flaminia, which ran from Nocera Umbra to the east through Pioraco, San Severino, Treia and Osimo to Ancona. The structure has a single arch vault. At one end a small segmental arch springs from the ground to the quarter point of the main arch; it worked as a floodway.

Arboretum Apenninicum

The Arboretum Apenninicum (9 hectares) is an arboretum operated by the University of Camerino, and located in Tuseggia, Camerino, Province of Macerata, Marche, Italy. The arboretum was established in 1990 in an agricultural area, and is currently being developed with a primary emphasis on the woody plants of central Italy, though exotics are also being cultivated.
