Monte Forato

Monte Forato is a mountain (1,230 m) in the Alpi Apuane, in Tuscany, central Italy. It is formed by two peaks of similar altitude, connected by a natural arch which has given the group its name (meaning "Holed Mountain" in Italian). The hole, nearly circular in shape, has a height of c. 12 m, while the arch itself is some 8 m thick. The arch can be seen from both Versilia and Garfagnana valleys at the two sides of the Monte Forato.

Volegno

Volegno is a hamlet in the province of Lucca, Tuscany, central Italy, administratively a frazione of the comune of Stazzema. Located at 450 m over the sea level in the Alpi Apuane Regional Park, it has some 50 inhabitants. Volegno is home to a church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which has some 16th-century paintings. The hamlet's economy has always been essentially based on the extraction of the so-called Pietra di Volegno or Cipollino stone, which ceased in the 20th century.

Pania della Croce

Pania della Croce is a mountain (1,858 m) in the Alpi Apuane, in Tuscany, central Italy. It is the highest peak in the Panie Group (Gruppo delle Panie), located not far from the Tyrrhenian Sea coast. On very clear days Monviso,, Monte Amiata and Corsica can all be seen from its summit, together with the tyrrhenian coastline.

Sant'Anna di Stazzema

Sant'Anna di Stazzema is a village in Tuscany in central Italy. Administratively, it is a frazione of the comune of Stazzema, in the province of Lucca. In 1944, it was the site of a notorious Nazi atrocity during World War II. The village was only partially rebuilt after the war. Since 2000, it has been the site of the Italian National Park of Peace (Parco Nazionale della Pace) with memorials and a museum dedicated to the massacre.

Sant'Anna di Stazzema massacre

The Sant'Anna di Stazzema massacre was a Nazi German atrocity in the hill village of Sant'Anna di Stazzema, Italy, in the course of an operation against the Italian resistance movement during the Italian Campaign of World War II. On August 12, 1944, about 560 local villagers and refugees were murdered and their bodies burnt in a scorched earth policy action by the German occupation forces of the Waffen-SS.
