Battle of Montaperti

The Battle of Montaperti was fought on September 4, 1260, between Florence and Siena in Tuscany as part of the conflict between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. It gained notoriety for an act of treachery that turned the tide of the battle, which was immortalised by Dante Alighieri in his epic poem Divine Comedy.

San Raimondo (Siena)

San Raimondo is a church in Siena, Tuscany, Italy. It was built from 1596 by will of the Sienese noble Aurelio Chigi. In 1660, Pope Alexander VII (a Chigi) commissioned from the city's architect, Benedetto Giovannelli, a new marble façade, which is in three classicist-style superimposed orders. The interior has a well-balanced decoration dating from the early 17th century. Canvasses include works by Alessandro Casolani, Francesco Vanni, Rutilio Manetti, Rustichino and Sebastiano Folli.

Santo Spirito is a church in Siena, Tuscany, Italy. The current edifice is largely a reconstruction from 1498-1504. Sant'Agostino (Siena)

Sant'Agostino is a church in Siena, Tuscany, central Italy. The construction of the church and its associated convent began in 1258 and lasted for more than fifty years. Other renovations and reconstructions were carried out in the following centuries. The interior, redesigned by Luigi Vanvitelli in the 18th century, has maintained the large high altars in polychrome marble from the 16th and 17th centuries. The stucco statues in the nave and in the transept date from the Vanvitelli renovation.

San Martino (Siena)

San Martino is a church in Siena, Tuscany, Italy. Known from the 12th century, it was enlarged and renovated in the 16th century. The façade was built in 1613 and the bell tower completed in 1738. The interior, in the counterfaçade, has an Immaculate Conception Protecting Siena during the Battle of Camullia by Giovanni di Lorenzo, commissioned by the city's commune in 1528. In the chapels are, among the others: the Circumcision of Jesus, one of Guido Reni's masterworks, the Martyrdom of St.
