Castelnuovo Berardenga

Castelnuovo Berardenga is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Siena in the Italian region Tuscany, located about 50 km southeast of Florence and about 14 km east of Siena. Since 1932 it is included in the Chianti wine-production area. The famous Battle of Montaperti between Guelphs and Ghibellines was fought nearby on September 4, 1260.

Battle of Montaperti

The Battle of Montaperti was fought on September 4, 1260, between Florence and Siena in Tuscany as part of the conflict between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. It gained notoriety for an act of treachery that turned the tide of the battle, which was immortalised by Dante Alighieri in his epic poem Divine Comedy.

San Raimondo (Siena)

San Raimondo is a church in Siena, Tuscany, Italy. It was built from 1596 by will of the Sienese noble Aurelio Chigi. In 1660, Pope Alexander VII (a Chigi) commissioned from the city's architect, Benedetto Giovannelli, a new marble façade, which is in three classicist-style superimposed orders. The interior has a well-balanced decoration dating from the early 17th century. Canvasses include works by Alessandro Casolani, Francesco Vanni, Rutilio Manetti, Rustichino and Sebastiano Folli.
