Valpiana

Valpiana is a village in Tuscany, central Italy, administratively a frazione of the comune of Massa Marittima, province of Grosseto, in the area of the Colline Metallifere. At the time of the 2001 census its population amounted to 453. Valpiana is about 45 km from Grosseto and 7 km from Massa Marittima. It was an ancient industrial centre of medieval Maremma and its first furnaces were built by Tollo degli Albizzeschi, father of more known saint Bernardino degli Albizzeschi.
