The 1997 Umbria and Marche earthquake consisted of two earthquakes that occurred in the regions of Umbria and Marche, central Italy, in quick succession on the morning of September 26, 1997. The first shock occurred at 2:33 am CEST, rated 5.7 on the Richter scale, and the second – the main shock – occurred at 11:40 am CEST, rated 6.1 on the Richter scale. Their epicentre was in Annifo.

The Eremo delle Carceri is a small hermitage in a steep forest gorge at the Monte Subasio, in Umbria, in middle Italy, four kilometers above Assisi, the steps and bows of which arch over a quatrefoil-shaped hole in the smooth pink stone: the so-called "Devil Hole", a grotto. The word Carceri is from the Latin 'carceres' and means "isolated places" (as well as "prisons").

Vescia
Vescia was an ancient Latin city of the Ausones, which was part of the so-called Auruncan Pentapolis and was destroyed by the Romans in 340 BC. It was a fortified center, located perhaps on the left shore of the Garigliano river, in the current comuni of Cellole and Sessa Aurunca, where remains of pre-Romans walls have been found. According to some sources, it was located on the Monte Massico, where there also ancient remains including a subterranean aqueduct and large mosaic pavements.

Topino
The Topino is a river in Umbria, central Italy. It was known in ancient times as Timia and is mentioned by Dante Alighieri in the Canto XI of the Paradise. Its spring is on the slopes of the Monte Pennino, at 649 m, in the territory of Nocera Umbra. Topino's affluents include the Menotre and the Clitunno River. After passing through the comuni of Valtopina, Foligno, Bevagna, Cannara and Bettona, it joins the Chiascio before flowing into the Tiber.
