Battle of Vittorio Veneto

The Battle of Vittorio Veneto was fought between 24 October and 3 November 1918, near Vittorio Veneto, during the Italian Campaign of World War I. The Italian victory marked the end of the war on the Italian Front, secured the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and was chiefly instrumental in ending the First World War less than two weeks later. Some Italians see Vittorio Veneto as the final culmination of the Risorgimento nationalist movement, in which Italy was unified.

Lago di Santa Croce

The Lago di Santa Croce is a semi-natural lake in the province of Belluno, Veneto, northern Italy, located between Farra d'Alpago and Santa Croce. The lake is located at 386 m ASL and currently has an area of 7.2 km², with an average depth of 33m. It was originally naturally a smaller lake, but was expanded with a dam during the 1930s. Outlets of the lake include the Piave. The area is quite a windy location and as such is a popular sailing, watersports and kitesurfing location.

1873 Alpago earthquake

The 1873 Alpago earthquake was an earthquake that occurred near the Italian city of Belluno on June 29, 1873. This took place in the geologically active Alpago Valley of the Veneto region; the zone is rated as two on a four-degree risk scale (one being the highest). The 6.3 magnitude quake was rated as 10th degree on the Mercalli Intensity Scale. Damage was reported mostly in the provinces of Belluno, Treviso and Pordenone.
