Manchester Parish

The Parish of Manchester is located in west-central Jamaica, in the county of Middlesex. Its capital, Mandeville, is a major business centre, and the only parish capital not located on the coast or on a major river. The Right Excellent Norman Washington Manley (d. 1969), one of Jamaica's seven National Heroes, was born in this parish.

Mandeville, Jamaica

Mandeville is the capital and largest town in the parish of Manchester in the county of Middlesex, Jamaica. In 2005, the town had an estimated population of 50,000, and including the immediate suburbs within a radius of 16 km the total population is about 72,000. It is located on an inland plateau at an altitude of 628 m (2061 feet), and is 103 km west of Kingston. It is the only parish capital of Jamaica not located on the coast or on a major river.

Hyacinth Chen Nursing School

The Hyacinth Chen School of Nursing was officially opened on the 10th of August 2008 on a location directly across from the Northern Caribbean University campus across from NCU's Dental Centre located in Mandeville, Jamaica. The school is owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamaica. The school is being named in honour of Mrs. Hyacinth Chen, the mother of major donor, Michael Lee-Chin, Jamaican/Canadian businessman.

Northern Caribbean University

The Northern Caribbean University (NCU) is a tertiary level academic facility in Mandeville, Manchester, west-central Jamaica run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Founded in 1907 as the West Indian Training School, in Bog Walk, St Catherine, it is the oldest private tertiary institution in Jamaica.
