The Kanmonkyo Bridge (関門橋 Kanmonkyō Kanmon bridge) is a suspension bridge crossing the Kanmon Straits, a stretch of water separating two of Japan's four main islands. On the Honshū side of the bridge is Shimonoseki (下関, which contributed "Kan" to the name of the strait) and on the Kyūshū side is Kitakyushu, whose former city and present ward, Moji (門司), gave the strait its "mon".

Kanmon Straits
The Kanmon Straits or the Straits of Shimonoseki is the stretch of water separating two of Japan's four main islands. On the Honshū side of the water is Shimonoseki (下関, which contributed "Kan" to the name of the strait) and on the Kyūshū side is Kitakyūshū, whose former city and present ward, Moji (門司), gave the strait its "mon" (門). The straits silt up at the rate of about 15 centimetres per annum, and dredging has made it possible to build the New Kitakyushu Airport at low cost.

Baiko Gakuin University is a private university in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi, Japan. The predecessor of the school was founded in 1872, and it was chartered as a junior women's college in 1967. The school's emblem (a stylized plum blossom) and kanji name Baiko reflect the names of the two schools merged to form Baiko Gakuin.
