Annaka, Gunma

Annaka, Gunma is a city located in Gunma prefecture, Japan. As of March 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 63,584, with 23,575 households and a population density of 230.09 persons per km². The total area is 276.34 km². The city was founded on November 1, 1958. On March 18, 2006 the town of Matsuida, from Usui District, which was dissolved in the merger, was merged into Annaka.

Annaka-shuku

Annaka-shuku was the fifteenth of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō. It is located in the present-day city of Annaka, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Batō Kan'on (馬頭漢音 horsehead gods) lined the way to the post town.

Annaka Domain

The Annaka Domain was a Japanese domain of the Edo period, located in Kōzuke Province. The Meiji-era educator Joseph Hardy Neesima was the son of a retainer of the Itakura clan of Annaka.
