Numata, Gunma

Numata, Gunma is a city in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. It is in northern Gunma, bordered by Mt. Akagi and Mt. Hotaka. The kanji for Numata approximately mean "boggy field. " The city was founded on 1 April 1954 and merged with the villages of Shirasawa and Tone, both from Tone District, on February 13, 2005. As of this merger, the city has an estimated population of 52,882, with a household number of 20,240 and a population density of 119.29 persons per km².
