Mount Maru (Kamishihoro-Shintoku)

is a lava dome located in the Nipesotsu-Maruyama Volcanic Group of the Ishikari Mountains, Hokkaidō, Japan. Mount Maru is also known as Higashi-Tokachi-Maruyama or Higashi-Taisetsu-Maruyama to distinguish it from other mountains with the same name. Only in 1989 did scientists discover that Mount Maru is a quaternary volcano. The mountain sits on the border between the towns of Kamishihoro and Shintoku.

Kamikawa (Ishikari) District, Hokkaido

Kamikawa (Ishikari) District, Hokkaido is a district located in Kamikawa Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. Confusingly, there is a district of the same name, Kamikawa (Teshio) District, in the same subprefecture. In 1869, Hokkaidō was divided into 11 provinces and 86 districts. Kamikawa district was placed under Ishikari Province. It is named after the headwaters of the Ishikari River, whereas the other Kamikawa district is named after the headwaters of the Teshio River.
