Yatsushiro Sea

The Yatsushiro Sea, which is also called the Shiranui Sea, is a shallow semi-enclosed inland sea separating the island of Kyūshū from the Amakusa Islands. It lies mostly within Kumamoto Prefecture and at the southern end of the sea it also borders Kagoshima Prefecture. To the north is the Ariake Sea; to the south, the East China Sea. Cities of note that lie on the Yatsushiro Sea include Yatsushiro itself and Minamata.

Hondo, Kumamoto

Hondo, Kumamoto was a city located in Kumamoto, Japan. On March 27, 2006 Hondo was merged with the towns of Amakusa, Ariake, Goshoura, Itsuwa, Kawaura, Kuratake, Shinwa and Sumoto, all from Amakusa District, and the old city of Ushibuka, to become the new city of Amakusa and no longer exists as an independent municipality. As of 2003, the city had an estimated population of 40,838 and the density of 281.99 persons per km². The total area was 144.82 km². The city was founded on April 1, 1954.

Minamata Bay

Minamata is a small factory town. Minamata Bay is a bay on the west coast of Kyūshū island, located in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The bay is part of the larger Shiranui Sea which is sandwiched between the coast of the Kyūshū mainland and the off-lying islands of Kumamoto and Nagasaki prefectures. The coastline is rugged, with many inlets and coves which act as the spawning grounds of fish and shellfish. A great variety of creatures live in this area.

Shin-Minamata Station

Shin-Minamata Station is a railway station in Minamata, Kumamoto, Japan, operated by Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu). The station building was designed by Makoto Sei Watanabe and opened on March 13, 2004.
