Tsushima Island

Tsushima Island (対馬, Tsushima) is an island of the Japanese archipelago situated in the middle of the Tsushima Strait at 34°25'N and 129°20'E. The main island of Tsushima was once a single island, but the island was divided into two in 1671 by the Ōfunakosiseto canal and into three in 1900 by the Manzekiseto canal. Tsushima is composed of North Tsushima Island (Kami Jima), South Tsushima Islands (Shimo Jima), and over 100 smaller islands. Generally the name Tsushima refers to all the islands.

Asō Bay

Asō Bay is a deep fjord that nearly cleaves in two the Japanese island of Tsushima. The bay is notable for its ria coastline, with various small islands found in close proximity to the shore. It forms part of the Iki-Tsushima Quasi-National Park. Pearls are cultured and Japanese amberjack are farmed in its waters.

Takeshiki Guard District

The Takeshiki Guard District was a navy base for the Imperial Japanese Navy located in the former Mitsushima town {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:34|16|4.8|N|129|18|43.5|E| |primary |name= }} (now part of present-day Tsushima, Nagasaki), on Tsushima Island, during the Russo-Japanese War. The Takeshiki Guard District was responsible for the control of the strategic Korea Strait, which divided Japan from the Asian mainland. The district was disbanded in 1912.
