Yaeyama Subprefecture

Yaeyama Subprefecture was a subprefecture of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. It was abolished in March 2009. Most of its functions were taken over by the Yaeyama Office of the prefecture. Miyaradunchi

The old residence of Miyaradunchi (宮良殿内, also read Meeradounujii and Meerayaradunuzi) is located on the island of Ishigaki, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. Erected around 1819 by the local governor, it has been designated an Important Cultural Property as representative of the architecture of the Yaeyama Islands. The gardens are a Place of Scenic Beauty.

Sakishima Islands

The Sakishima Islands (or 先島群島, Sakishima-guntō) are an island chain located at the southernmost end of the Japanese Archipelago. They are part of the Ryukyu Islands and include the Miyako Islands and the Yaeyama Islands. The islands are administered as part of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, though the uninhabited Senkaku Islands are claimed by the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China on Taiwan.

Ishigaki Island

is a Japanese island west of Okinawa Hontō and the second-largest island of the Yaeyama Island group. It is within the City of Ishigaki in Okinawa Prefecture. The city functions as the business and transport center of the archipelago. The island is served by New Ishigaki Airport, the largest airport in the Yaeyamas. Much of the island and surrounding waters including Mount Omoto and Kabira Bay are protected as part of Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park.

Kabira Bay

Kabira Bay is located on the north coast of Ishigaki Island, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. Renowned for its white sands, turquoise waters and dense vegetation, the bay forms part of the Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park. Alongside Mount Omoto it has been designated a Place of Scenic Beauty. Black pearls are cultured in the bay. Kabira Village is located near the bay. Its traditional culture was studied by American anthropologists in 1950-52.
