Izumo-taisha
is one of the most ancient and important Shinto shrines in Japan. No record gives the date of establishment. Located in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, it is home to two major festivals. It is dedicated to the god Ōkuninushi (Ōkuninushi-no-mikoto), famous as the Shinto deity of marriage. A style of architecture, taisha-zukuri, takes its name from the main hall of Izumo-taisha. That hall, and the attached buildings, were designated National Treasures of Japan in 1952.

Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo
The Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo (島根県立古代出雲歴史博物館, Shimane kenritsu kodai Izumo rekishi hakubutsukan) opened in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, Japan in 2007. The design, by architect Fumihiko Maki, references the locally-important tatara steel; construction was completed in March 2006. The permanent collection focuses on Izumo-taisha, Izumo Fudoki, and bronze artifacts of the Kofun period - including National Treasures from the Kojindani site - as well as the history of life in Shimane.

Fumi-shima
Fumi-shima is an islet 180 metres from the shore near Izumo, Shimane, Japan. Underwater, in this location, one finds a variety of stone structures reminiscent of human activity, such as formations resembling stairs and others resembling flowers.
