Hola, Kenya
Hola, also known as Galole is a small town in Kenya on the Tana River with a population of 6932. Hola is the capital of the Tana River District, in the Coast Province. It is a busy market town, and portal to Ijara District and Northeastern province by local canoe ferry across the Tana River. In addition to the Hola agricultural irrigation scheme, there is a District Hospital and a Kenya Prisons facility located within the town.

2012-13 Tana River District clashes
In August 2012, a series of ethnic clashes between the Orma and Pokomo tribes of Kenya's Tana River District resulted in the deaths of at least fifty-two people. The violence was the worst of its kind in Kenya since the country's 2007–08 crisis. The violence left 118 people dead and more than 13,500 displaced and another more than 30,000 people affected by the ethno-political clashes. Over 50% of the 13500 are children the rest being women and elderly.

Tana River Primate Reserve
Tana River Primate Reserve, totaling eleven square miles of scattered forest patches, was set aside in 1976 in order to protect the swampy forests of the Lower Tana River and two endangered primates, the Tana River Mangabey and the Tana River Red Colobus, that are found there. The reserve, sixteen patches of forest ranging from 10 to 625 ha (totaling 171 km), extends for 16 km down the meandering lower Tana River located approximately 350 km east of Nairobi and 240 km north of Mombasa.
