1989 Malawi earthquake

The 1989 Malawi earthquake, a magnitude 6.6 quake, occurred on March 10, 1989 in central Malawi. At least 9 people were killed, 100 injured and damage was in the Salima-Dedza-Mchinji area. About 50,000 were left homeless in Malawi. It was felt strongly in much of central Malawi, Niassa and Tete Provinces of Mozambique, and parts of Zambia.

Nkhoma

Nkhoma is a hill in the Lilongwe District of Malawi. South African missionaries established a mission in 1889 and named mission after the hill. Nowadays, Nkhoma still hosts the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian - Nkhoma Synod and several affiliated institutions: Nkhoma Institute for Continued Theological Training (also known as Josophat Mwale Theological Institute) Nkhoma Hospital Nkhoma College of Nursing Nkhoma is also a surname common among the Chewa and Tumbuka people.
