The 1995 Colima-Jalisco earthquake was a Mw 8.0 earthquake which occurred on October 9 at 15:36 UTC, off the coast of Jalisco, Mexico. At least 49 people died and 100 were injured because of the earthquake. The earthquake triggered a tsunami, which affected a 200 km stretch of the coast. The Cihuatlan-Manzanillo area, Colima, was more severely affected than other areas. The earthquake could be felt in Mexico City and in high-rise buildings in Dallas and Houston.

Manzanillo, Colima
The name Manzanillo refers to the city as well as its surrounding municipality in the Mexican state of Colima. The city, located on the Pacific Ocean, contains Mexico's busiest port that is responsible for handling cargo for the Mexico City area.
