Olmec heartland

The Olmec heartland is the southern portion of Mexico's Gulf Coast region between the Tuxtla mountains and the Olmec archaeological site of La Venta, extending roughly 80 km (50 mi) inland from the Gulf of Mexico coastline at its deepest. It is today, as it was during the height of the Olmec civilization, a tropical lowland forest environment, crossed by meandering rivers.

Oteapan

Oteapan is a Municipality in Veracruz, Mexico. It is located in south-east zone of the State of Veracruz, about 394 km from state capital Xalapa. It has a surface of 27.97 km2. It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:18|00|N|94|40|W||| | |name= }}. The municipality of Oteapan is delimited to the north by Chinameca to the east by Cosoleacaque, to the south by Zaragoza and to the south-west by Jaltipan State. Hidalgotitlán, Veracruz

Hidalgotitlán is a town in the Mexican state of Veracruz, with a population of near 18,000 in 2000. Its name derives from two words: one Spanish and the other indigenous. The first part is the family name Hidalgo (after the father of the modern Mexican nation, Miguel Hidalgo) and the second part is -tlan, a Nahuatl suffix that means "place". The settlement stands on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, on the left bank of the River Coatzacoalcos.
