Gyaing River

Gyaing River is a river of Kayin State and Mon State, in southeastern Burma (Myanmar). Its two major tributaries, the Hlaingbwe River and the Haungtharaw River, flow together to form the Gyaing at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:16|36|12|N|98|00|25|E| | |name= }}. Kanni II, Kyain Seikgyi

Kanni is a large village in northern Kyain Seikgyi Township, Kawkareik District, in the Kayin State of Burma (Myanmar). It lies on the left (western) bank of the Haungtharaw (Haungthayaw) River just upstream (south) of where it flows into the Gyaing River.

Kalagong massacre

On 7 July 1945, the Kalagong Massacre was committed against inhabitants of Kalagong, Burma, by members of the 3rd Battalion, 215th Regiment and the OC Moulmein Kempeitai of the Imperial Japanese Army. These units had been ordered by Major General Seiei Yamamoto, chief of staff of the 33rd Army, to sweep the area for guerrillas reportedly teamed with British paratroops. The Japanese occupied the village and rounded up all the inhabitants for questioning.
