Chaung-U

Chaung-U is a town in central Myanmar. It is located in Monywa District, Sagaing Division. It is the principal town of Chaung-U township. In the Bagan dynasty, when King Popa Saw Rahan (also known as King Taungthugyi) governed the country, it was named "San Tauk Village". It was a large village where some different natives of the Union of Myanmar, like kayin, shan and lawah(wah) natives, lived warmly together. Laykyun Sekkya

The Laykyun Setkyar is the second tallest statue in the world at 116 metres . This statute of Gautama Buddha stands on a 13.5 metres throne located in the village of Khatakan Taung, near Monywa, Myanmar. Construction began in 1996 and was completed on 21 February 2008. It was built by the Chief Abbot Ven. Nãradã, who died on the 22nd of November, 2006.

Phowintaung

Phowintaung (also spelt as Hpowindaung, Powintaung, Po Win Taung) is a Buddhist cave complex located approximately 25 kilometers west of Monywa and 10 kilometers southeast of Yinmabin, in Yinmabin Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Region, Northern Burma (Myanmar). It is located on the western bank of the Chindwin River. The name of the complex means Mountain of Isolated Solitary Meditation. The complex contains 947 small and large richly decorated caves.
