Dawei River

The Dawei River or Tavoy River is a river of Burma. It has its source in the Tenasserim Hills and ends in the Andaman Sea in the Tanintharyi Region coast. In the last stretch of its course it flows from north to south, forming an estuary as it meets the sea. There are a number of small islands on the western side of the estuarine area. Dawei (Tavoy) town is located by the river at a distance about 40 km from its mouth.

Dawei

Dawei, is name of ethnic people in Myanmar among 135 and a city in southeastern Myanmar and is capital of Tanintharyi Region, formerly Tanintharyi Division, situated about 614.3 km south of Yangon on the northern bank of the Dawei River. Population (2004 estimate) 139 900. It is situated at 14.09°N 98.20°E. Dawei is a port at the head of the Dawei River estuary, 30 km . from the Andaman Sea. As a result the city is prone to flooding during the monsoon season.
