Rødøy Church

Rødøy Church is a parish church in the municipality of Rødøy in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the island of Rødøya. The church is part of the Rødøy parish in the Nord-Helgeland deanery in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden, octagonal church was built in 1885 and it seats about 700 people. The church had a fire in 2009 after a lightning strike.

Rødøya

Rødøya is an island in the municipality of Rødøy in Nordland county, Norway. It lies just north of Gjerdøya and west of the mainland. The 8.5-square-kilometre island is located just west of the mouth of the Tjongsfjorden. There are ferry connections from the village of Rødøy to Jektvika on the mainland and to Gjerdøya. Rødøy Church is located in the village of Rødøy on the south side of the island.

Gjerøy or Gjerdøya is an island in the municipality of Rødøy in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in a group of islands. It is south of Rødøya, north of Rangsundøya, and west of Renga. The main village on the island is Gjerøy.

Tjongsfjorden

Tjongsfjorden is a fjord in the municipality of Rødøy in Nordland county, Norway. The 17-kilometre long fjord begins just west of the Svartisen glacier and flows west and flows into the Rødøyfjorden, just east of the island of Rødøya. The mountain Blokktinden lies on the southern shore of the fjord. The villages of Tjong and Vågaholmen lie along the northern shore of the fjord. Norwegian County Road 17 runs along the inner part of the fjord.

HMS Syrtis (P241)

HMS Syrtis was an S class submarine of the Royal Navy, and part of the Third Group built of that class. She was built by Cammell Laird and launched on March 23, 1943. So far she has been the only ship to bear the name Syrtis, the Latin name for the Gulf of Gabes in the Mediterranean Sea. She served in home waters, and left Lerwick on March 16, 1944 to patrol off the Norwegian coast. On March 20 she was ordered to an area near Bodø. Two days later she sank the steamer Narvik with gunfire.
