Øye stave church

Øye stave church (Øye stavkyrkje) is situated in Øye, a village in the municipality of Vang, Oppland county, Norway. It is a triple nave stave church and dates from the second half of the 12th century. The church was situated next to the lake Vangsmjøse in Øye. Here, however, the river Rødøla would flood almost every spring and, corpses would be flushed out of their graves. As a result the church was moved, this time to a location further away from the river.

Vangsmjøse

Vangsmjøse (Vangsmjøsa or Vangsmjøsi) is a lake in Vang municipality in Oppland county, Norway. It has an area of 18.25 km² and is about 154 m deep according to NVE. A local myth says that if you lower a raw ham in the deepest part of Vangsmjøse, it will be boiled when you pull it up again. It is at an elevation of 466 m above sea level. The shoreline is 43.47 km around. Øye stave church (Øye stavkyrkje) is situated in Øye, a village at the west end of Vangsmjøse.

Tyinkrysset

Tyinkrysset is a small village in Vang municipality, Norway. The European route E16 passes through Tyinkrysset, connecting Oppland county with Lærdal to the west. Alternatively the riksvei 53 national road goes north, toward Årdal. Many mountain-climbers enjoy this area as it has few inhabitants and is near the Scarvheiman mountains.
