The Siege of Toma was a bloodless action during the First World War on the island of New Britain between 14–17 September 1914 as part of the occupation of German New Guinea by the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF).

Kerevat Airfield

Kerevat Airfield was an aerodrome located near Kerevat, East New Britain province, Papua New Guinea. Situated on the northern coast, it was 13 miles south west of Rabaul. The airfield was constructed by the Imperial Japanese in World War II during September 1943. Kerevat Airfield was neutralized by Allied Powers' air bombing from 1944 who ran missions on the airfield between June 20, 1943 and May 16, 1944.

Battle of Karavia Bay

The Battle of Karavia Bay occurred in February 1944 and was the first surface engagement fought in the Rabaul area of New Britain during the Solomon Islands Campaign. A squadron of United States Navy warships attacked the harbor defenses of Karavia Bay and exchanged naval gunfire and torpedos with two Japanese destroyers. The nighttime engagement ended with the silencing of the Japanese artillery and resulted in a blockade of the port. Two Japanese transports were also sunk in the fighting.

Karavia Bay

Karavia Bay is a bay near Rabaul, New Britain, Papua New Guinea. Simpson Harbour is located to the north, while to the east is Blanche Bay. The naval battle of Karavia Bay was fought in February 1944 during World War II in the bay. A number of shipwrecks are located in the bay.

Islands Region

The Islands Region is one of four regions of Papua New Guinea (PNG) comprising the Bismarck Archipelago and North Solomon Islands located north-east of the mainland. This is the least densely inhabited region of the country with a population of 750,000 (14% of PNG) and distinct through its history, as shown by the prevalence of Austronesian languages and archeological findings of Lapita pottery culture.
