Penafiel Municipality is located in Porto District in the North of Portugal. The municipal areas surrounding Penafiel City have a population of 71,801 and are made up of 38 parishes, comprising 212,82 km². The municipality of Penafiel is located east of Oporto (Porto) in Tâmega subregion and in Vale do Sousa (Sousa Valley) Urban Community, of which is one of the main cities.

Tâmega Subregion

Tâmega Subregion is a NUTS3 subregion and is part of the NUTS2 region of Norte Region, Portugal. Its name derives from the Tâmega River that crosses through the subregion. With 558,000 inhabitants (2005) it is the fourth most populated subregion in Portugal. It has several important urban centers - Paços de Ferreira (pop. 41,000), Lousada (pop. 25,000), Penafiel (24,000), Paredes and Felgueiras (pop. 21,000) - being one of the most decentralized of the Portuguese subregions.

Estádio Municipal 25 de Abril

Estadio Municipal 25 de Abril is a multi-use stadium in Penafiel, Portugal. It is primarily used for football matches and is the home ground of F.C. Penafiel. The ground currently holds a capacity of 5103. The stadium was built in 1930 and was opened on the 21 January 1934. The first game it hosted was between Penafiel and Penafidelense. The stadium was previously called Campo das Leiras but was changed in 1974 following the Carnation Revolution. The stadium was remodeled in 2000.
