Alvão Natural Park

The Alvão Natural Park (Portuguese: Parque Natural do Alvão) is a protected area located in the municipalities of Mondim de Basto and Vila Real, in northern Portugal. It was created in 1983 and extends through 70 km² of mountainous land.

Douro Subregion

Douro Subregion is a part of Norte Region, Portugal that includes most of the Portuguese section of the Douro River. With an area of 4,114 km² and a population of 217,000, it is one of the less-densely-populated Portuguese subregions. Its main urban centers are Vila Real (pop. 25,000), Lamego (18,000) and Régua (12,000). Other towns: Foz Côa (3,300) & Tarouca (3,200).

Vila Real District

The District of Vila Real is a district of northern Portugal. With an area of 4,239 km², the district is located west of the port city of Porto and north of the Douro River. Vila Real has always belonged to the historical province of Tras-os-Montes. Approximate population in the 2001 census was 230,000. The population has shown negative rates in recent years due to emigration and aging.
