Lakhta air base

Lakhta (also described as Kholm, Katunino, Novodvinsk, Lahta, or Pervomaysk) is a naval air base in Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia located 22 km southeast of Arkhangelsk. It was home to 574 MRAP (574th Naval Missile-carrying Aviation Regiment) flying Tupolev Tu-16 and Tupolev Tu-22M bombers. It is capable of nuclear weapons storage.

Malye Korely

Malye Korely is a village in Primorsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast, in the north of Russia. The main sight of the village is an open-air museum, featuring the traditional wooden architecture of Arkhangelsk area. The museum is located on the right bank of the Northern Dvina River close to the mouth of the Korelka River, about 25 kilometres southeast from the city of Arkhangelsk.

Antonievo-Siysky Monastery

Antonievo-Siysky Monastery (Антониев-Сийский монастырь in Russian) is a Russian Orthodox monastery that was founded by Saint Anthony of Siya deep in the woods, 90 km to the south of Kholmogory, in 1520. Currently the monastery is located in Kholmogorsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast in Russia, inside the nature protected area, Siysky Zakaznik.

Arkhangelsk Regional Rescue Service

The Arkhangelsk Regional Rescue Service (ARRS) was founded by the governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia on 6 April 1998 to provide emergency assistance and preparedness in dealing with a variety of emergency situations. It operates under the jurisdiction of the Agency for Fire Protection and Civil Defence of Arkhangelsk Oblast. The head of the ARRS since 1998 is Igor Polivany.

Arkhangelsk explosion of 2004

On March 16, 2004, an explosion destroyed a corner section of a nine-story Soviet-era apartment building in Arkhangelsk, Russia. It happened at 3:25 a.m. local time. The explosion occurred in 120 Avenue of the Soviet Cosmonauts in the October district (Oktyabrskiy rayon) of Arkhangelsk. The death toll from the explosion was 58 (33 women, 16 men and 9 children). At least 2 of the dead died in a hospital after being rescued.
