The Arkhangelsk Regional Rescue Service (ARRS) was founded by the governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia on 6 April 1998 to provide emergency assistance and preparedness in dealing with a variety of emergency situations. Arkhangelsk Governorate

Arkhangelsk Governorate (Russian: Архангельская губерния, Arkhangelskaya guberniya) was an administrative division of the Russian Empire, which existed from 1796 until 1929. Its seat was in Arkhangelsk. The governorate was located in the north of Russian Empire and bordered Tobolsk Governorate in the south-east, Vologda Governorate in the south, Olonets Governorate in the southwest, and Sweden in the west. In the north, the governorate was limited by the White and Barents Seas.

Arkhangelsk explosion of 2004

On March 16, 2004, an explosion destroyed a corner section of a nine-story Soviet-era apartment building in Arkhangelsk, Russia. It happened at 3:25 a.m. local time. The explosion occurred in 120 Avenue of the Soviet Cosmonauts in the October district (Oktyabrskiy rayon) of Arkhangelsk. The death toll from the explosion was 58 (33 women, 16 men and 9 children). At least 2 of the dead died in a hospital after being rescued.
