Al-`Ula

The Al-`Ula city (also Al Ola, Arabic العلا al-ʿulā; Also Dedan), some 110 km southwest of Tayma (380 km north of Medina) in northwestern of Saudi Arabia was located at the incense route. It was the capital of the ancient Lihyanites (Dedanites). It is well known for archaeological remnants, some over 2000 years old.

Ash-Shams

Sūrat al-Shams is the 91st sura of the Qur'an with 15 ayat. It opens with a series of solemn oaths sworn on various astronomical phenomena, the first of which, "by the sun", gives the sura its name, then on the human soul itself. It then describes the fate of Thamud, a formerly prosperous extinct Arab tribe.

Mada'in Saleh

Mada'in Saleh, also called Al-Hijr, el Hijr, and Hegra (so in Greek and Latin, e.g. by Pliny), is a pre-Islamic archaeological site located in the Al-Ula sector, within the Al Madinah Region of Saudi Arabia. A majority of the vestiges date from the Nabatean kingdom (1st century CE). The site constitutes the kingdom's southernmost and largest settlement after Petra, its capital. Traces of Lihyanite and Roman occupation before and after the Nabatean rule, respectively, can also be found in situ.

Prince Abdul Majeed bin Abdul Aziz Domestic Airport

Prince Abdul Majeed bin Abdul Aziz Domestic Airport is located 25 kilometres southeast of Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia. It was named after Prince Abdul Majeed bin Abdulaziz. The planned capacity of the airport was 100,000 passengers per year, particularly both tourists and locals. The airport began operations on 31 October 2011 when the first flight from Riyadh operated by Saudia. It is the closest airport to the pre-Islamic archaeological site of Mada'in Saleh and Al Ula Heritage Village.
