Triglav Lakes Valley

The Triglav Lakes Valley (Slovene: Dolina Triglavskih jezer) is a rocky hanging valley in the Julian Alps in Slovenia, below the sheer sides of Mount Tičarica and Mount Zelnarica southwest of Triglav. The valley is also called the Seven Lakes Valley (Dolina sedmerih jezer), although there are ten and not seven lakes in the valley. It is above the tree line and is geologically Alpine karst; therefore it has also been termed the Sea of Stone Valley (Dolina kamnitega morja).

Komna

Komňa is a village and municipality in Uherské Hradiště District in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. The municipality covers an area of 16.37 square kilometres, and has a population of 582 (as at 28 August 2006). Komňa lies approximately 28 kilometres east of Uherské Hradiště, 30 km south of Zlín, and 274 km south-east of Prague.

Trenta (valley)

The Trenta Valley is a valley in the Julian Alps in the northern part of the Goriška traditional region of Slovenia. The source of the Soča River and the settlements of Soča, Lepena, and Trenta are located in the Trenta Valley. The Vršič Pass connects the valley with Upper Carniola to the east. The Soča flows generally southwest through the valley and then onwards to Bovec.

Black Lake (Triglav Lakes Valley)

Black Lake is the lowest-lying lake in the Triglav Lakes Valley, part of the Julian Alps in Slovenia. It is named for its location in a basin in the middle of the forest, which stretches right to the edge of the Komarča rock face. Because of its relatively low elevation, it is the warmest of the Triglav Lakes. At the surface, its temperature in summer is 9 °C, whereas in winter it is 3 °C . It is 150 m long, 80 m wide, and up to 6 m deep..

1348 Friuli earthquake

The earthquake of 25 January 1348, centered in the South Alpine region of Friuli, was felt across Europe. The quake hit in the same year that the Great Plague ravaged Italy. According to contemporary sources, it caused considerable damage to structures; churches and houses collapsed, villages were destroyed and foul odors emanated from the earth.
